Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the influence of the effectiveness of Aids to Navigation (AtoN)
on the safety and security of ship navigation in the Malacca Strait, specifically within the
Navigation District Type A Class I Dumai. The background of this research highlights
the critical role of AtoN in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of maritime activities
in heavily trafficked waters. The research method applied is a descriptive quantitative
approach, utilizing field studies and statistical data analysis. Data were collected through
observation, interviews, and distribution of questionnaires to relevant stakeholders. The
findings indicate that the effectiveness of AtoN significantly influences maritime safety
and security. Major obstacles identified include insufficient routine maintenance and
limited availability of navigation aids. Therefore, it is recommended to improve periodic
maintenance, procure additional navigation aids, and increase awareness regarding the
importance of AtoN to minimize the risk of maritime accidents in the Malacca Strait.
