Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of humidity and environmental temperature on the fire risk of coal cargo aboard MV. Noah Fortuna. Coal cargo exposed to high humidity and elevated environmental temperatures has a significant potential for spontaneous combustion. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method through questionnaires distributed to the ship's crew and data analysis using multiple linear regression. The findings reveal that humidity and environmental temperature have a positive and significant effect on the risk of coal cargo fire. This is reinforced by the fact that the combination of high humidity and increased temperature accelerates oxidation processes, thereby heightening the risk of fire ignition in coal cargo. These findings are essential as a basis for managing and mitigating the fire risk of coal cargo on bulk carriers, including periodic monitoring of humidity and temperature, as well as the use of effective ventilation and fire extinguishing systems. This study contributes to enhancing maritime safety, preventing material losses, and supporting the preservation of the environment surrounding ports and operational areas. The research outcomes are expected to serve as practical guidelines for shipping companies, ship crews, and related agencies in managing the fire risk of coal cargo on ships.
