Abstract:
Sulthoni, Ahmad.2025 “The Effect of Seawater Pump Impeller Performance and
Maintenance on AC Compressors KM. Ciremai”
The study is motivated by the crucial role of seawater pumps in the AC compressor cooling system
on the KM Ciremai ship. Frequent issues such as decreased pump pressure, impeller fouling, and
pump leaks disrupt the cooling system's efficiency and the comfort of passengers and crew. The
research aims to analyze the impact of inadequate maintenance and performance decline of the
seawater pump on impeller fouling, as well as the relationship between lack of maintenance and
pump performance degradation. The research employs a quantitative method with a descriptive
approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 70 crew members of KM
Ciremai as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS SEM (Partial Least
Square – Structural Equation Modeling) software to test validity, reliability, and variable
relationships. The results indicate that inadequate pump maintenance significantly affects pump
performance decline and impeller fouling. Additionally, decreased pump performance directly
influences impeller fouling. The study concludes that the performance and maintenance of the
seawater pump impeller significantly impact the AC compressor's efficiency in KM Ciremai.
Therefore, it is recommended to enhance the frequency and quality of pump maintenance and
conduct regular monitoring of the impeller's condition to prevent fouling and maintain the cooling
system's efficiency.
