dc.description.abstract Sinurat, Sonia Amelia. 2025. “The Influence of Maritime Safety Information on Shipping Safety in Tanjung Priok Waters at the Directorate of Navigation” Tanjung Priok is the busiest port in Indonesia, with dense ship traffic and complex maritime activities. The high dynamics of shipping traffic in this area pose significant maritime risks. One of the essential tools to ensure shipping safety is Maritime Safety Information (MSI), which provides timely updates related to navigation warnings, meteorological conditions, and other maritime hazards. However, current observations reveal that there are still problems such as delays in the dissemination of information and uneven access to MSI across vessels. Unlike previous studies that analyzed MSI implementation in general or in strait regions, this research specifically investigates the quantitative impact of MSI on maritime safety in Tanjung Priok waters. The focus on one of Indonesia’s busiest ports highlights the urgency of assessing the effectiveness of MSI systems under high-density maritime conditions. The main research questions are to what extent does Maritime Safety Information influence shipping safety in Tanjung Priok waters and how significant is the effect of delayed dissemination of MSI on the level of maritime safety. This study adopts a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to ship crew members, Directorate of Navigation personnel, and other stakeholders. The data is analyzed using a simple linear regression method to determine the statistical correlation between MSI (independent variable) and shipping safety (dependent variable). The findings demonstrate a strong positive correlation between the effectiveness of MSI dissemination and increased safety at sea. The results indicate that approximately 65% of the variations in shipping safety can be explained by the timeliness, accuracy, and accessibility of MSI. Real-time updates through NAVTEX, radio, and VTS systems help in decision-making processes, particularly in avoiding collisions, grounding, and navigating during bad weather. This study concludes that MSI plays a critical role in enhancing shipping safety in Tanjung Priok waters. It is recommended that the Directorate of Navigation improve the infrastructure and digital systems for MSI distribution, ensure faster data verification processes, and enhance the awareness of VTS operators to maintain effective safety communication with ships in their area of responsibility. en_US
