Abstract:
Fauzan Khalfani Octavian, 2025. " Preventive maintenance of fresh water generator to
increase fresh water production on MV HL DANGJIN”
A very significant decrease in fresh water production, from normal conditions of 20
tons/day to 13 tons/day on MV HL DANGJIN. This problem occurs due to failure to
achieve a vacuum level in the fresh water generator and the occurrence of scaling which
causes salt deposits to accumulate on the evaporator walls. This study aims to analyze the
causes of the low vacuum level in the fresh water generator and scaling which causes salt
deposits to accumulate on the evaporator walls. This study uses a qualitative descriptive
method with observation, interview, documentation, and literature study techniques. The
results of the study indicate that the application of preventive maintenance based on the
instruction manual book can reduce the risk of damage and increase fresh water
production and system efficiency. This analysis uses the fishbone method which is a
method used to identify, compile, and investigate the main causes of a problem or certain
effects to determine the root cause of the problem. This study recommends improving the
fresh water production monitoring system and technical training for the crew.
