Blockage Detection System on Sea water pump Pipelines with Backup Pump Activation
Based on Sensors and Microcontrollers on LNG Vessel ENERGY ADVANCE”
The cooling system on a ship is an important element to maintain engine performance
and prevent overheating. One of the main components is the seawater pump which often
faces obstacles in the form of blockages due to the accumulation of dirt and marine
biota. This study aims to design and implement an automatic system based on sensors
and microcontrollers to detect blockages in the seawater pump channel in real-time and
automatically activate the pump backup to ensure the smooth operation of the lighting
system.
Deadlocks due to marine biota occur due to ships entering the border area between
Russia and Japan which have different temperature differences, Japan has a warmer sea
air temperature in the Russian band, so many fish expand into Japanese waters in search
of air that has a warm temperature, this results in many fish being sucked into the sea
channel and clogging the seawater pump filter.
So that the design of a pump automation system and deadlock detection was made using
an ESP32 microcontroller, a YF-S401 flow sensor, and a relay module as an actuator.
The test results showed that the system successfully detected flow disturbances and
automatically activated the pump backup when a deadlock occurred, with a practicality
level reaching 90% based on user validation. This research contributes to the
development of more efficient and reliable automatic cooling systems in the maritime
world.
