Putri, Livia Kusuma Astuti Dirga. 2025. “Analysis of the Influence of Ship Fire
Handling Training on Crew and Passenger Safety”
This study aims to analyze the effect of fire handling training on the safety of crew
members and passengers aboard KM. Bukit Raya. The issues addressed include the
suboptimal implementation of training, its non-compliance with STCW 2010 Code AVIII/2 on weekly drills, and inadequate maintenance and communication regarding fire
safety equipment. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The
population includes 133 crew members and passengers, with a sample of 100 respondents
selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using a closedended Likert scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed through validity and reliability
tests, simple linear regression, t-test, Spearman correlation, and determination test. The
results indicate that fire handling training has a significant impact on the safety of crew
and passengers. The correlation coefficient reflects a strong relationship, while the R²
value of 0.607 indicates that training contributes 60.7% to overall safety improvement. In
conclusion, structured and standardized training significantly improves crew
preparedness and reduces passenger risk. The author recommends PT PELNI to enhance
training quality, upgrade fire alert systems, and conduct regular evaluations of emergency
readiness onboard.
