" Optimization of Coal Loading to Prevent Fires on Board MV. Daidan Mustikawati” The loading of coal cargo on board vessels carries a high risk of spontaneous heating, which can escalate into fire incidents, especially in the absence of optimal monitoring and early detection systems. This study aims to analyze the root causes of coal cargo fires on MV. Daidan Mustikawati and to formulate preventive solutions based on risk management approaches and real-time monitoring technologies. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews with ship crew and cargo officers, direct field observations, and document analysis. A fishbone diagram was used to identify the contributing factors and propose feasible solutions. The findings indicate that the coal fire incident was primarily caused by the lack of temperature and gas detection systems in cargo holds, reliance on visual observation, and incomplete implementation of loading procedures as outlined in the IMSBC Code. Proposed solutions include the installation of Internet of Things (IoT)-based temperature and gas sensors, enhanced crew training on cargo safety procedures, and optimization of trimming practices and pre-loading coal temperature monitoring. Implementing a systematic and technology-supported loading strategy is expected to significantly reduce the risk of coal cargo fires, thereby enhancing onboard safety during maritime transport. en_US
