OIL PRESSURE DROP IN THE DIESEL GENERATOR ONBOARD MV. KINTOKI”
This research was motivated by the discovery of a significant drop in lubricating oil
pressure in the diesel generator engine aboard the MV. Kintoki. This condition has the
potential to cause serious damage to engine components if not addressed promptly. The
research method used is descriptive qualitative, through direct onboard observation,
interviews, literature study, and documentation. The results showed that the factors
causing the drop in lubricating oil pressure were dirty oil filters and lubricating oil pumps
that were not operating optimally. As a solution, the dirty filters were replaced with new
ones to prevent a drastic drop in oil pressure. The malfunctioning oil pump was also
identified as a contributing factor, where further inspection revealed an underperforming
electric motor and corroded pipelines. As a solution, the electric motor was replaced with
a new one, and the corroded pipelines were replaced and repainted using anti-corrosive
red oxide primer to extend the lifespan of the pipes. This problem-solving approach
proved effective in reducing the drop in lubricating oil pressure. This research is expected
to serve as a useful reference for ship engineers in making appropriate decisions to
address lubricating oil pressure issues in diesel generators onboard vessels.
