in the Operaration of Main Turbine on SS. Prima Carrier"
This research is motivated by the delayed response in the opening and closing of valves
in the steam flow system, specifically the make – up valve (inlet valve) and the spill valve
(outlet valve), which cause a slowdown in the rotation of the main steam turbin. Under
normal operation conditions, these two valves function as steam pressure regulators and
are responsible for controlling the inlet and outlet of sealing steam. Therefore, they must
be kept in optimal condition to ensure that the designated parameters are achieved and
the main steam turbine operates efficiently and smoothly. The research method used is
qualitative descriptive to facilitate data analysis. Data collection methods include
observation, interviews, and documentation studies to support and strengthen the
analysis. The aim of this research is to identify the causes of the delayed valve response
in the steam flow, which leads to a decrease in the rotational speed of the main steam
turbine on the SS. Prima Carrier. The conclusion of this study indicates that the main
factor causing the delayed response in valve operation is the lack of maintenance on the
make – up valve and the spill valve in the sealing steam system. The preventive measures
include replacing the diaphragm components in both valves and lubricating the valve
spindle to ensure smoother operation.
