Abstract:
This study aims to identify obstacles in the implementation of cargo hold cleaning on
the MV. Victoria 1 and to analyze effective solutions to optimize the process and prevent
crew accidents. The issues discussed include the crew's lack of skills and understanding,
inadequate equipment, and insufficient supervision of cleaning procedures.
A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through field
observations, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The research population
and sample consisted of crew members aboard MV. Victoria 1 involved in cargo hold
cleaning activities. Data were analyzed qualitatively through reduction, display, and
conclusion drawing.
The results indicate that cargo hold cleaning is suboptimal due to equipment shortages
and limited human resource capacity. Recommended efforts include regular safety
meetings, improved supervision systems, and consistent fulfillment of Cleaning
Equipment requisitions.
This study concludes that optimizing cargo hold cleaning procedures improves both crew
safety and ship operational efficiency. Recommendations are addressed to ship crews and
management to encourage effective communication and ensure regular supervision and
equipment maintenance.
