Abstract:
The causes of loading delays of alumina cargo aboard the MV. Dewi Saraswati, with a
specific focus on cargo hold readiness. Several issues were observed, including residual
coal cargo that had not been adequately cleaned, insufficient cleaning equipment, and
unfavorable weather conditions hindering the cleaning process. This study employs a
qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were collected through
direct observation, documentation, and relevant literature review. The results indicate that
effective cleaning and repainting of the cargo hold are critical, especially since alumina
is highly susceptible to contamination. Thus, technical preparedness and coordination
among the crew are key to preventing operational delays. This research is expected to
serve as a practical reference for ship crews and shipping companies in improving
operational efficiency, particularly on bulk carrier vessels.
